Dairsie in Bloom
As you travel though the village you will see many floral displays. These are created by 2 local residents who take charge of this venture. They have enlisted the help of some villagers to ensure the displays are maintained thoughout the spring and summer months. Villagers also sponsor individual tubs and these are given recognition by a small plaque on each one. We have been ranked excellent every year.

Blooming Dairsie
The Group was instigated by myself (Judy Dowling) back in 2012/13, with a friend Margaret Roberts, and a few other villagers.
We are a small group, with two of us doing the planning and planting, and others supporting us by watering mainly, and general maintenance.
Our main aim was, and still is, to improve the local environment by planting flowers in tubs and elsewhere where possible, and involve the community as much as possible.
We are always happy for any help, in whatever way is possible. Watering a tub near you could be one way to help, or weeding if deemed necessary. Even just dead heading as you walk by and see a need....! Sometimes help with planting bedding or bulbs is needed; feel free to offer any help. The planting on Station Road is always in need of weeding and dead heading; it is going to need a big overhaul this year if possible as the couch grass from the unused field behind is taking over... any help here would be greatly appreciated. I think we may have to clear it all and start again...
We work with other groups in the village such as the Primary School; we had the support of the village Church too until recently when it was closed.
We do planting with the school children, and they very kindly let us use their polytunnel to grow plants. Tubs are placed around the School, and the boat in the grounds.
When Dairsie Meadows was built, 4 new occupants said they would like a tub near them when we asked, and volunteered to plant them up and look after them by themselves. This was much welcomed by the Group as we are quite stretched at times.
We are a sub group of the Community Council also, of which we are both members.
The local businesses in the village , including the Shop, garage and B&B, also support us; all of them sponsor flower tubs. The Shop displays notices for us, and have helped to supply plants at a very good price. The owner of the B&B, Drew, also waters and keeps an eye on the large Octagon planter at his end of the village. Another villager sponsors and waters all the planters at the top of Ardencaple, a great help!
The Sponsorship scheme was started a few years ago and has proved invaluable as the costs of plants, soil, fertiliser and new tubs goes up, and the Council grant has gone down.
We have 30 tubs/planters in and around the village, and each one has been sponsored by a business or a villager, every year.
The larger ones are £30 a year, and the wooden tubs £10.
The cost covers summer bedding and bulbs for the Spring, plus fresh compost etc.
Please us the contact us if you would like to help in any way.
